birthday season
so we didnt know how to pronounce certain words. like ninja. ‘cause in the movies we’d rent they would be the subject but never be mentioned. or at least not referred to in that term. i just tried typing the phonetic version of what that would sound like in the groninger dialect that i grew up with. that doesnt work. there’s no way i could get that across in english.but it sure is a one of a kind pronounciation.
So anyway, that time, when you would go to the video store not for the newest movies but for the movies that seemed good when u read the back of the box (even tho you’d have seen the ninja mission 3 times before, but there was always the fourth person you would have to educate on the level of coolness you were dealing with). when films were unpersonalized, the actors were not famous, but the person they acted out was the ultimate of what you could possibly wish to be. You didn’t need to see so and so play a role, instead you were going to be THAT kind of hero. From the time your idols were still older than you…from the time saturdaynight was the future that your parents didn’t quite allow you to experience.from that time i speak to you. But in reality i had a dinner at friend’s house. i’m home with my dog. not sure if the future is in front or behind me.
